Participants Sought for Interactive Stormwater Festival
The City of Burien is seeking volunteers and station educators for StormFest, an interactive festival focused on stormwater education for over a thousand 6th-grade students at Highline Public Schools. Set to occur on June 4, 5, and 6 at Des Moines Beach Park, the event aims to foster environmental stewardship through engaging, hands-on learning experiences. Volunteers will help ensure the event runs smoothly, while educators will receive training and a stipend for co-teaching interactive lessons. The festival promotes equitable access to education, featuring dual-language classes in both English and Spanish to cater to diverse student backgrounds. Liz Wonder, the sustainability manager for Burien, expressed her enthusiasm for the event, noting its potential to inspire the next generation of environmental professionals.
“It's heartening to see students and teachers show enthusiasm for community-wide solutions around stormwater pollution,” she stated. Interested individuals are encouraged to apply online by May 19, and a training day is scheduled for May 29. This initiative not only educates students but also cultivates a sense of community involvement and environmental responsibility.
