Tom Calabrese has been selected as the new police chief of Burien, with his official appointment taking effect on August 31, 2024. Previously serving as the interim chief and Captain of the Burien Police Department since April 2023, Calabrese brings a wealth of experience with 24 years in law enforcement. He began his career in 2000 as a patrol deputy in Burien and has held various positions, including master police officer and detective. Calabrese expressed his deep connection to the community, stating, "It has always been home to me and when this opportunity presented itself, I couldn’t say no. " His commitment to fostering positive relationships with current officers is a testament to his leadership vision.

City Manager Adolfo Bailon highlighted Calabrese's dedication, noting that his genuine passion for the community is evident. This transition aims to bolster local law enforcement and enhance community safety in Burien. Calabrese's long-standing ties with the area position him uniquely to understand and address local policing needs.
