Burien Celebrates Welcoming Week 2024

Burien, WALocal News

The City of Burien is gearing up for its fourth annual National Welcoming Week, taking place from September 13-22, 2024, to celebrate the diversity and inclusivity of its community. This initiative aligns with the national Welcoming Week, organized by the nonprofit Welcoming America, which aims to connect neighbors of all backgrounds. The Burien City Council will issue a proclamation declaring this week during their meeting on September 9, 2024. The main event, the Welcoming Burien festival, is scheduled for September 14, offering an array of cultural performances, activities, and a resource fair, all at no charge to attendees. Lorraine Chachere, the lead organizer, highlighted that the event reflects the community's appreciation for its diverse population.

Since joining the Welcoming America network in 2021, Burien has made significant strides in immigrant inclusion. Attendees will also have the chance to engage with Burien’s Community Connectors, who represent various language communities. City Manager Adolfo Bailon encourages all residents to participate in this celebration of Burien's vibrancy and inclusivity.
