Burien Celebrates Lunar New Year 2025

The City of Burien is excited to host its first official Lunar New Year event on February 1, 2025, in recognition of the cultural significance this celebration holds for its Asian residents. The event follows a proclamation from the Burien City Council, which acknowledges the contributions of its 7,000 residents of Asian descent, ushering in the year of the snake. Collaborating with local organizations, the event will feature a variety of activities including treats, games, and a traditional lion dance. Economic Development Specialist Lorraine Chachere emphasizes the importance of community involvement in creating this meaningful celebration. Residents like Nha Khuc and Elly Trinh share their enthusiasm, noting that the event fosters connections and reinforces the value of diversity in Burien.

The initiative is also supported by the City’s Neighborhood Grants Program, which aims to promote community-led projects. This Lunar New Year celebration is a chance for families to reflect on traditions and hope for the future. Overall, it signifies a step toward inclusivity and cultural recognition within the city, making residents feel valued and connected.
