Discover Burien honored the memory of Douglas “Uncle Doug” Query at its annual “Best of Burien” dinner last Friday, March 14, 2025, with a touching video tribute that celebrated his impactful life. Doug, who passed away in November 2024, was deeply cherished within the community, particularly by Debra George, the Executive Director of Discover Burien. In a heartfelt social media post, George referred to him as her “personal superhero” and shared her grief, stating, “I miss this man every day. ” Known for his kindness and infectious smile, Doug was a beloved member of the “Team Clean Sweep” crew, dedicated to maintaining a clean environment in Downtown Burien. His passion for life included a love for old TV shows, animals, and a genuine desire to help others.

To commemorate his legacy, a custom-made Superman-themed bench will be unveiled on April 2, 2025, symbolizing the superhero role he played in the lives of those who knew him. As the community continues to mourn his loss, updates regarding the memorial event will be shared, allowing residents to pay their respects. This tribute underscores the profound impact one individual can have on a community, leaving behind a legacy of kindness and dedication.
