The Highline School Board is preparing for public interviews with ten finalists for two open seats on February 26, 2025, following the resignations of board members Melissa Petrini and Azeb Hagos. President Joe Van emphasized the importance of these new members in fulfilling the board's commitment to knowing every student by name and need. The board received 13 applications, reflecting strong community interest, and narrowed the candidates down to five for District 4 and five for District 5. The interviews will be held at the Central Office Board Room and will be livestreamed for public access. After the interviews, the board will deliberate and is expected to vote on the new directors on March 5.

Newly appointed members will be sworn in on March 19, beginning their service until the next election in November 2025. This process underscores the community's engagement in education and the board's commitment to representing diverse perspectives. The Highline School Board's proactive approach in selecting candidates highlights the significance of local governance in shaping educational outcomes.
