Almost immediately, passersby rushed to help her, providing water and napkins for her bleeding lip while she awaited ice from her husband. A particularly kind woman even took it upon herself to deliver a box of books to a neighboring bookstore. Wallace noted that multiple community members stood ready to assist her in getting up from the sidewalk. Despite the physical bruises to her pride, lip, and glasses, she expressed overwhelming gratitude for the kindness she experienced from her fellow residents.
