Washington State Transportation Commission seeking public input on toll rates for SR 509, SR 167 expressways - The B-Town (Burien) Blog

Burien, WALocal News

The Washington State Transportation Commission (WSTC) is seeking public feedback on proposed toll rates for the SR 509 and SR 167 Expressways, which are part of the broader Puget Sound Gateway Program. The commission plans to finalize these rates by June 2025, making it essential for community members to voice their opinions. Tolling will begin in phases, with the first segment of SR 509 set to launch in October 2025, followed by SR 167 in December 2026. The proposed rates will vary depending on the time of day and the type of vehicle, with options for low-income discounts being considered to alleviate financial burdens. This initiative is aimed at reducing traffic congestion and generating funds for vital infrastructure improvements across the region.

The commission is evaluating a range of toll rates, from $1. 20 to $3. 00 for two-axle vehicles, and plans to implement annual increases. Community engagement is crucial, as public input will significantly shape the final tolling policies. As such, residents are encouraged to participate in the public consultation process to ensure their voices are heard.
