Burien, WALocal News

Nada Wallace, a dedicated volunteer from Burien's CARES Animal Shelter, made headlines for her heroic rescue of Balto, a 47-pound Siberian Husky who had gone missing during a snowstorm on March 16, 2025. Balto had escaped from his new family while enjoying a snowy outing the day before. Undeterred by the heavy snowfall and freezing temperatures, Wallace and her husband drove overnight from West Seattle to North Bend, determined to bring Balto home. After an exhaustive search, Wallace found the terrified dog hiding in the woods. Using food to coax him out, she joyfully embraced Balto upon his return.

Her heartfelt Facebook post captured the emotional moment, where she expressed her love for the dog and the fulfillment she felt from the rescue. Fellow volunteers and the shelter recognized Wallace's bravery, highlighting her as an inspiration to the community. Balto is now safe and back with his family, showcasing the vital role of volunteers in animal rescue efforts.
