FOLLOWUP Rep. Mia Gregerson calls Burien City Managers statements on HB 1380 misleading claims

State Rep. Mia Gregerson (D–SeaTac) is actively refuting claims made by Burien City Manager Adolfo Bailon regarding House Bill 1380, also known as the Safe Spaces, Strong Communities Act. Bailon warned that the bill could lead to unnecessary lawsuits and complicate city management of public spaces, a notion Gregerson vehemently denies. She argues that HB 1380 is designed to facilitate fair regulation of public areas while safeguarding constitutional rights for individuals experiencing homelessness. The bill aims to provide clear legal guidelines that help cities draft enforceable laws, countering the narrative that it would increase litigation.

Gregerson emphasizes the importance of investing in long-term solutions like housing and shelters, rather than resorting to punitive measures against homelessness. She encourages community engagement, inviting residents to attend a Town Hall to discuss the bill’s goals and address any concerns.
