King County Prosecutors charge driver in fatal Mar. 7 I-5 crash in Tukwila

Burien, WALocal News

On March 7, 2025, Daud Sakerie Mohamud, a 30-year-old from Auburn, was charged with multiple felonies, including hit-and-run resulting in death, after a catastrophic crash on I-5 in Tukwila. The collision, which involved Mohamud's SUV plummeting from an overpass, killed his front-seat passenger, Abdiqadir Ahmed, and injured several others, including a backseat passenger requiring surgery. Mohamud attempted to escape but was located by law enforcement emerging from nearby woods, where he discarded his wallet. Despite his claims that Ahmed was driving, evidence contradicted his story, including his shoes found in the driver's seat. Prosecutors highlighted Mohamud's concerning history of 35 traffic infractions and multiple DUI incidents, emphasizing the need for strict bail conditions to ensure community safety.

Bail was set at $100,000, and prosecutors are pushing for electronic home detention and a prohibition on driving. This case raises significant questions about road safety and repeat offenders in the region. Mohamud’s next court date is approaching, as the community remains on alert following this tragic incident.
