WEATHER Local meteorologist warns of significant storm incoming with threats of heavy rain, flooding and strong winds - The B-Town (Burien) Blog

Burien, WALocal News

A formidable storm system, driven by an atmospheric river from the Pacific Ocean, is poised to hit the Pacific Northwest, bringing heavy rain, flooding, and strong winds. Local meteorologist Michael Snyder warns that the storm could lead to significant flooding in urban areas and low-lying regions, with the National Weather Service issuing a Flood Watch from Sunday morning through late Tuesday night. Forecasts indicate that rainfall could accumulate to 3 to 5 inches, raising concerns about landslides and rapid river rises. Coastal regions are on alert for hurricane-force winds, with gusts potentially reaching up to 80 mph. While Snyder notes that this storm may not be unprecedented, he advises residents to prepare for possible disruptions.

Additionally, avalanche warnings are in effect due to the combination of heavy wet snow and rainfall impacting the existing snowpack. Residents are encouraged to stay informed and heed safety warnings, including the advice to "turn around, don’t drown" when encountering flooded roads. Further updates will follow as meteorologists track the storm's trajectory and impacts.
