Virginia Mason Franciscan Health awards 1.7 million to area nonprofits

Burien, WALocal News

Virginia Mason Franciscan Health (VMFH) is set to award $1. 7 million to local nonprofits through its Community Health Improvement Grants program, continuing its commitment to community well-being. This year, 27 organizations were chosen from 79 applications, focusing on crucial health challenges such as access to care and chronic disease prevention. Among the awardees are the American Heart Association, which aims to address maternal health disparities, and FareStart, which will distribute fresh produce vouchers to low-income households. The grants will directly support innovative projects designed to improve health outcomes, particularly for underserved populations.

VMFH's CEO, Ketul J. Patel, emphasized the importance of these investments in fostering social justice and community strength. Additionally, the funding is backed by contributions from eight VMFH hospitals in partnership with CommonSpirit Health. The program not only addresses immediate health needs but also aims to create long-term improvements in health equity. More information about the grants can be found on the Community Health Improvement Grants webpage.
