Police Chief Selection Process Underway

Burien, WALocal News

The City of Burien is commencing the selection process for a new police chief to lead its police department, which collaborates with the King County Sheriff's Office. This initiative follows the resignation of former Chief Ted Boe, who dedicated six years to the Burien community before moving to a chief position in Des Moines. The city is following the protocols outlined in the Interlocal Agreement for police services with King County, ensuring a structured approach to the selection. A series of stakeholder panels will conduct interviews with candidates, featuring a diverse group of community leaders, city staff, and councilmembers. City Manager Adolfo Bailon highlighted the commitment to racial equity, noting that the majority of panel members will be people of color, reflecting the community's diversity.

The city is dedicated to keeping the public informed throughout the selection process. Captain Tom Calabrese will continue to serve as the interim police chief until a new chief is appointed. Burien looks forward to welcoming its new police chief and continuing its efforts toward community engagement and equity.
