A serious incident occurred on February 14, 2025, when a 58-year-old Des Moines man was shot by a Kent Police officer after allegedly threatening himself and family members with a firearm. The situation escalated in the Woodmont neighborhood, prompting a response from Kent Police to assist Des Moines Police. After the man fled his home, authorities launched a comprehensive search operation, employing drones and foot patrols, alongside crisis negotiation teams. Eventually, the man was found at a nearby beach, where an encounter with police resulted in the officer shooting him. First aid was promptly administered by both police and medical personnel on standby, and the man was taken to Harborview Medical Center for ongoing medical care.
