More than 1,000 take part in Saturday's Brat Trot, raising 50,000 for Highline Schools
The annual Brat Trot in downtown Burien drew over 1,000 participants on October 4, generating more than $50,000 for the Highline Schools Foundation. The event featured a diverse crowd of runners, walkers, and community teams, emphasizing local support for education initiatives. Fred Swanson, the foundation's Executive Director, highlighted the joy of witnessing community investment in schools. Hazel Valley Elementary earned a $500 prize for having the most student participants, narrowly beating Gregory Heights Elementary. Soundview Strength and Conditioning won a pizza party for having the largest adult team, edging out newcomer The Swole Brats from Tiltshift CrossFit.
Race winners included Kyle Seago and Daria Etchings in the 5K category, and Uriel Alvarado and Sloane Sandoval in the 1K. The Brat Trot is one of the foundation's largest fundraising efforts, supporting programs for students and families across Burien, Des Moines, and surrounding areas. The event reinforces the community's commitment to education and local support initiatives.
