DUI arrest made after collision outside Burien Safeway Thursday night
A woman was arrested for suspicion of driving under the influence after colliding with another vehicle outside a Safeway in Burien on September 18. Police received a report from a caller who indicated that the female driver seemed impaired. Upon arrival, deputies conducted field sobriety tests, which resulted in failure for the suspect. She was subsequently taken into custody, and a search warrant was obtained for a blood draw before she was booked into jail. The King County Sheriff’s Office employs 14 certified phlebotomists trained to perform blood draws during DUI investigations.
Each phlebotomist holds a Medical Assistant-Phlebotomist certification and is authorized to conduct such procedures. This incident underscores the local law enforcement's commitment to tackling impaired driving. The project to repave SR 99 and upgrade sidewalk ramps in the area is nearing completion later this fall, further improving public safety.
