Port of Seattle to host community workshops on Sea-Tac Airport noise starting Sept. 30

Burien, WALocal News

The Port of Seattle will conduct a series of public workshops this fall to address aircraft noise from Seattle-Tacoma International Airport. These workshops are part of the FAA's Part 150 Noise and Land Use Compatibility Study, a voluntary program assessing airport noise exposure and potential mitigation strategies. The sessions will take place on September 30, October 2, October 4, and October 15, both in-person and virtually, allowing residents to participate according to their convenience. Attendees will have the opportunity to review draft noise exposure maps and propose strategies to reduce noise impact. The Port will provide food and childcare at in-person workshops, and interpretation services are available with prior notice.

This initiative marks the fourth update at SEA since 1985, emphasizing the ongoing concern regarding aircraft noise in the region. Recommendations from the study may qualify for federal funding, enhancing the potential for effective noise mitigation. The Port aims to foster open dialogue between residents and staff to address community concerns directly.
