Mount Rainier Pool will mark its 50th anniversary on September 21 with a dedication ceremony at noon. The event will feature a welcome by Board President Shane Young and a keynote address from City Manager Katherine Caffrey. A proclamation will honor civic leader James R. Ellis, whose efforts led to the creation of 17 public pools in King County. Following the ceremony, attendees can enjoy a free community swim from 1 to 3 p.

m. The Board of Commissioners will also establish James Ellis Day to ensure ongoing community access to the pool. District General Manager Scott Deschenes highlighted Ellis's belief in public infrastructure as a means of promoting equity and civic pride. The celebration will include facility tours, historical displays, and information about future plans. Current programs aim to eliminate barriers for underserved communities, with initiatives like Kids Swim Free.
