A memorial service for Guy MacDonald Harper, a prominent local artist and historian, will be held on Friday, Sept. 26, 2025, at Lake Burien Presbyterian Church. Harper, who passed away peacefully at the age of 92 on Aug. 26, was an influential figure in Burien, contributing to both the arts and local history. As a star rower at the University of Washington, he helped establish the Ancient Mariners Club in 1986.

In his later years, he became a master wood carver, known for his projects such as the arch at Lake Burien Park and the “Conversation Table,” which aimed to foster community interaction. In addition to his artistic achievements, Harper co-authored a book in 2010 that preserved the rich history of the Three Tree Point area. His life was guided by the principle of “Inspire,” emphasizing his dedication to helping others and building connections. One tribute noted, “There truly was no guy like our Guy,” highlighting his unique impact on those around him. Harper's contributions to the community will be remembered and celebrated during the upcoming service.
