The National Weather Service issued a Heat Advisory for Burien, effective from July 5 to 8, 2024, predicting high temperatures in the upper 80s and 90s. Local cooling centers, including the Burien Community Center and libraries, will offer air conditioning to help residents cope with the heat. The Burien Community Center will be open on Friday from 9 a. m. to 5 p.

m. , while the Burien Library and Boulevard Park Library will have different hours throughout the weekend. Officials warn that heat-related illnesses pose a moderate to major risk during this advisory period, with over 700 preventable deaths in the U. S. annually attributed to extreme heat.

The City of Burien provides additional summer safety tips on its website, available in English, Spanish, Vietnamese, and Amharic.
