Burien teacher and Highline High alum Jessica Bedolla-Mendoza to run New York City Marathon this fall for kids
Burien teacher Jessica Bedolla-Mendoza will participate in the New York City Marathon on November 2, 2025, to raise funds for Team for Kids, a charity that supports youth fitness programs. Her commitment stems from her own experiences as a student at Highline High School, where she was inspired by her teachers and became passionate about education. Bedolla-Mendoza ran track and cross country throughout her high school years, qualifying for state competitions and serving as ASB president. She views her marathon run as a way to inspire her students and give back to the community. "Every mile I run and every dollar raised goes toward sparking a child’s future," she stated.
The NYC Marathon, organized by the New York Road Runners, has evolved since its inaugural race in 1970, which featured only 127 runners. Today, it attracts tens of thousands of participants and millions of spectators. Donations can be made on her official fundraising page to support her cause.
