Record-setting summer travel at Sea-Tac Airport continues into Labor Day weekend

Burien, WALocal News

Seattle-Tacoma International Airport (SEA) braces for a busy Labor Day weekend, following a summer marked by record passenger traffic. The Port of Seattle reported that SEA broke its all-time daily passenger record three times this summer, with the most recent peak on August 10, when over 78,700 travelers passed through TSA checkpoints. To accommodate the surge, SEA expanded Checkpoint 1 and enhanced the north end ticketing area as part of its Gateway Project. Travelers should prepare for construction-related delays along the airport expressway, which is slated for completion in spring 2026. During the holiday travel period from August 28 to September 2, SEA expects over one million passengers, about 7% more than last year.

The busiest day is anticipated to be Friday, August 29, with nearly 197,000 travelers. In addition to construction updates, SEA has introduced new dining options, including Skillet and Theo Chocolate. Officials advise arriving at least two hours before domestic flights and utilizing SEA Spot Saver to reserve a spot in the security line.
