Scuba diver dies during night dive in Des Moines Monday night, 2 others hospitalized

A scuba diver died during a night dive at Redondo Beach Park on August 25, 2025, after suffering a medical emergency underwater. At approximately 9 p. m. , fellow divers brought the victim to the surface and performed CPR until firefighters arrived. Capt.

Brad Chaney stated, "The patient was then swam back to shore, where our firefighters met them. " Despite multiple rounds of CPR, the individual was pronounced dead at the scene. Two other divers were hospitalized after making a rapid ascent during the rescue attempt, raising concerns about safety protocols. South King Fire officials dismissed rumors of electrocution, clarifying that an electrical fire had occurred nearby, causing a power outage but was unrelated to the diving incident. The identity of the deceased diver has not yet been released.

This tragic incident highlights the risks associated with night diving, prompting discussions on safety measures in local diving communities.
