Three weekends of South 160th Street closures in Burien begin this Friday, Aug. 8

Burien, WALocal News

Roundabout construction at the South 160th Street and SR 509 interchange in Burien will begin this weekend, leading to closures over three consecutive weekends. The Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) will close South 160th Street and nearby SR 509 ramps from Aug. 8 to Aug. 25 to facilitate the construction of two new roundabouts. The closures will take place from Friday to Monday during the weekends of Aug.

8-11, Aug. 15-18, and Aug. 22-25. Nighttime closures will restrict access to South 160th Street between Ambaum Cut Off South and 5th Place South, while detours will guide drivers to alternate routes. Local access to residential and business properties will be maintained, ensuring minimal disruption.

The SR 509 Completion Project, which enhances highway connectivity, is expected to be completed by 2029, with previous stages already opened this summer. WSDOT's Puget Sound Gateway Program encompasses this project, along with the SR 167 Completion Project, addressing significant gaps in the highway network. This construction is crucial for improving traffic flow and supporting the region's growing infrastructure needs.
