WEATHER National Weather Service issues Heat Advisory, with highs expected in upper 80s and 90s this weekend

The National Weather Service has issued a Heat Advisory for parts of northwest and west central Washington, effective from Noon on July 5 until 10 PM on July 8, 2024. High temperatures are forecasted to reach the upper 80s and 90s, with Sunday potentially hitting 93 degrees. This level of heat poses a moderate to major risk of heat-related illnesses, particularly affecting those without access to effective cooling or hydration. Residents are advised to stay hydrated, avoid sun exposure, and check on neighbors, especially the elderly and vulnerable. The NWS emphasizes that young children and pets should never be left unattended in vehicles under any circumstances.

As the heatwave progresses, only gradual cooling is anticipated, with temperatures expected to drop to around 86 by Tuesday. The advisory includes precautionary measures for outdoor activities, urging rescheduling of strenuous tasks to cooler parts of the day. Residents should familiarize themselves with the signs of heat exhaustion and heat stroke, as these conditions can escalate quickly.
