Port of Seattle criticizes federal climate rollbacks in new One Big Beautiful Bill

Burien, WALocal News

The Port of Seattle strongly criticized H. R. 1, the “One Big Beautiful Bill Act,” for its detrimental impact on clean energy funding. The legislation eliminates vital tax credits for electric vehicles, alternative fuels, and energy-efficient building upgrades, hindering the Port’s decarbonization efforts. Commission President Toshiko Hasegawa stated, “The passage of this bill makes the local fight against climate change harder.

” Additionally, the bill rescinds EPA funding from the Inflation Reduction Act, affecting the transition from diesel trucks to electric alternatives. Commissioner Fred Felleman emphasized that the legislation undermines both local and national climate goals. Despite these concerns, the Port acknowledged some positive elements, such as investments in air traffic control and Coast Guard operations. The Port remains committed to advocating for sustainable policies that protect public health and air quality. They plan to work closely with Washington’s congressional delegation to address these critical issues moving forward.
