Burien residents invited to apply for Public Safety Levy Pro and Con committees

Burien, WALocal News

Burien residents can now apply for Pro and Con Committees regarding a proposed public safety levy, with applications due by July 9, 2025. The committees will craft position statements and rebuttals for the King County Elections local voters’ pamphlet, due by August 12 and 14, 2025, respectively. The Burien City Council approved the ballot language for this measure in a meeting on June 30, 2025. If the levy passes, it will fund the community’s top three public safety priorities identified through extensive community engagement. These priorities include enhancing police co-response efforts, maintaining current police staffing levels, and improving infrastructure for safer streets.

The committees will allow residents to engage with their neighbors and share insights while drafting their statements. The council will appoint up to three members for each committee at its meeting on July 14. For further details, residents can visit the city’s webpage dedicated to the levy proposal.
