Maritime High School (MHS) in Des Moines, WA, celebrated its first graduation on June 18, 2025, achieving a 100% graduation rate with 31 students. Among the graduates, 15 are advancing to higher education, including two attending the California Maritime Academy, while five will directly enter the maritime industry. The school's innovative curriculum blends traditional academics with hands-on maritime training, creating a robust learning environment in partnership with local organizations such as the Port of Seattle. "It’s incredible to see what these young people have accomplished at this innovative school," said Rep. Adam Smith, emphasizing the role of workforce development education.

This milestone is particularly significant as the maritime industry faces a global shortage of over 150,000 qualified professionals. MHS's success reflects a commitment to preparing students for high-demand careers in maritime-related fields. Graduates are set to embark on diverse paths, with some entering the workforce and others pursuing further education at notable institutions. This achievement signifies a pivotal moment for both the graduates and the maritime industry's future workforce.
