Mass. shelter asks for help after surrender of 52 cats from well-intentioned resident

Boston, MALocal News

Second Chance Animal Services in East Brookfield, Massachusetts, is appealing for community assistance following the surrender of 52 cats by a local resident who encountered health issues. Initially equipped to handle 22 cats, the shelter now faces an unexpected financial strain, expecting total care costs to exceed $18,000. Over $3,000 in donations have already been collected to help with feeding and medical care. Although the rescued cats were not spayed, neutered, or vaccinated, they arrived in good condition and are well-socialized, with many seeking attention immediately. Among the felines is a mother cat and her seven kittens, who have been placed in a foster home.

Some of the cats are already available for adoption, highlighting the urgent need for new homes. The shelter's appeal underscores the importance of community involvement in animal welfare. As the shelter navigates this large rescue, they encourage the public to adopt these loving cats once they are ready.
