Compressor explosion at Newburyport Dunkin' injures 2 workers

Two workers were injured in an explosion at a Dunkin' in Newburyport, Massachusetts, while conducting routine maintenance on an HVAC unit. The incident occurred just before 10 a. m. due to an electrical short that caused a fitting failure. Deputy Chief Barry Salt of the Newburyport Fire Department reported that one worker suffered second-degree burns, while the other sustained more severe third-degree burns.

Both victims are receiving treatment for serious but non-life-threatening injuries at a local hospital. The fire was already out when first responders arrived, and there was no damage to the building. Local officials, including the Newburyport Electrical Inspector and OSHA, have been notified and are investigating the incident. The cause of the explosion remains unclear, as investigations are ongoing. Such incidents highlight the importance of safety protocols in routine maintenance work.
