Planning Department Advances New Cancer Hospital In Longwood Medical Area

The Boston Planning Department has approved four significant development projects, including a new cancer hospital, totaling approximately 825,786 square feet. The Future Cancer Hospital at One Joslin Place will respond to the increasing demand for inpatient cancer care, creating around 965 construction jobs and 1,310 permanent jobs. This project will also contribute $1 million to the Boston Housing Acquisition Loan Fund, $1 million to the Boston Public Health Commission for cancer screenings, and substantial funding to local organizations. Community enhancements will include the reconstruction of Joslin Park and roadway reconfigurations for improved pedestrian safety. The new Boston University Pardee School of Global Studies will convert a parking lot into an academic facility and public open space.

Both projects will adhere to sustainability standards, such as LEED Gold certification. The initiatives aim to bolster Boston's resilience, affordability, and equity, enhancing the urban environment and community welfare. As Boston continues to grow, these developments will play a crucial role in shaping a more inclusive city.
