Mayor Michelle Wu and LGBTQ Advancement Announce New Legal Services Grants and Resources to Better Support LGBTQ Residents
Mayor Michelle Wu announced a series of initiatives to bolster support for LGBTQ+ residents in Boston, coinciding with the annual Pride parade. MOLA is allocating $125,000 in grants for legal services to help residents navigate legal challenges. The newly established LGBTQ+ Partner Network, comprising over 90 members, serves as a resource directory, while a discrimination guidebook has been co-created with the Massachusetts Commission Against Discrimination and Northeastern University. Mayor Wu reaffirmed Boston's commitment to inclusivity, stating that these investments will foster joy and community connection. City Councilor Liz Breadon emphasized the need for solidarity among the LGBTQ+ community amid federal opposition.
Councilor Henry Santana underscored the importance of these initiatives in promoting equity and belonging. MOLA awarded legal support grants to GLBTQ Legal Advocates & Defenders and Greater Boston Legal Services, which provide essential services like legal name changes and protections against domestic violence. These actions reflect a broader commitment to ensuring that LGBTQ+ residents thrive across all neighborhoods.
