Boston, MALocal News

Mayor Michelle Wu celebrated the opening of Flour Bakery + Café’s new location in the Boston Common Concession Pavilion, highlighting its community-centered approach. Founded by James Beard Award-winning pastry chef Joanne Chang, Flour is a minority- and women-owned business that began in the South End in 2000. The bakery's latest site, which had a soft opening on April 15, features special pastries crafted for the iconic park, including soft serve and the Embrace Sticky Bun. Wu noted that Flour's presence enhances public spaces and contributes to the revitalization of Downtown Boston. This initiative aligns with the Boston Common Master Plan, which aims to improve amenities and strengthen the park’s cultural character.

Local leaders, including State Representative Jay Livingstone and City Councilor Sharon Durkan, praised the bakery's impact on the community. Flour joins other seasonal activations on the Common, such as the UnCommon Stage and Beer Garden, fostering a vibrant atmosphere. Chang expressed her gratitude for the Boston community, reinforcing Flour's commitment to nurturing connections through food.
