Mayor Wu Announces Applications Open for Block Party Grant

Boston, MALocal News

Mayor Michelle Wu announced the opening of applications for block party grants, which provide up to $750 for residents to host summer gatherings. The initiative aims to promote community engagement and connection among Boston's diverse neighborhoods. Last year, the Office of Civic Organizing awarded over $30,000 in grants to support 52 block parties, emphasizing the importance of these events in uniting residents. City Council President Ruthzee Louijeune and Councilor Henry Santana stressed that block parties help solidify community ties and enhance neighborhood safety. To qualify, events must be free, open to the public, and held on public streets.

Residents need to apply for a Play Street Closing Permit at least four weeks before their proposed event. Applications will be approved on a rolling basis until July 11, 2025. The Office of Civic Organizing will also host an information session for potential applicants.
