Mayor Wu, City of Boston Break Ground on New EMS Station Along South Boston Waterfront
Mayor Michelle Wu officially launched construction of a $16 million EMS station on the South Boston Waterfront today, enhancing emergency medical response capabilities in the neighborhood. The station will include a two-bay ambulance garage, public restrooms, and a lounge area for EMS personnel, addressing a significant rise in emergency calls over the past decade. Boston EMS Chief James Hooley highlighted the importance of the facility in improving response times and health outcomes. Dr. Bisola Ojikutu, the city's Public Health Commissioner, remarked on the project's alignment with public health equity and preparedness goals.
The station will be fully electric and aims for LEED certification, reflecting the city’s commitment to sustainability. As the South Boston area continues to develop, this investment in public safety will ensure high-quality emergency medical care is accessible to all residents. Congressman Stephen F. Lynch praised the collaboration behind the project, emphasizing the need for expanded public safety capacity in the rapidly growing district. Construction completion is anticipated by 2026.
