City of Boston Awards Three Community Development Corporations With Green Retrofit Funding to Support Decarbonization

Boston Mayor Michelle Wu announced the allocation of $750,250 from the Equitable Emissions Investment Fund to three community development corporations for building decarbonization projects. The awarded funds will support initiatives that address greenhouse gas emissions and air pollution in affordable housing. The Codman Square Neighborhood Development Corporation will receive $255,000 for its comprehensive decarbonization plans, while the Dorchester Bay Economic Development Corporation will get $250,000 to install solar panels for low-income tenants. The Fenway Community Development Corporation will receive $245,250 for its decarbonization initiative in an affordable housing building. Mayor Wu highlighted that these grants exemplify Boston's commitment to equity and environmental justice.

The projects are projected to reduce emissions equivalent to taking 64 gas-powered cars off the road each year. The EEIF was established under the Building Emissions Reduction and Disclosure Ordinance to support local carbon abatement projects. The next application round for EEIF funding is open until May 30, 2025.
