Boston, MALocal News

The Boston Planning Department this month advanced five development projects in Roxbury, collectively contributing 155 residential units, including 29 income-restricted ones. These projects will create approximately 211 construction jobs and 179 permanent positions, enhancing local employment opportunities. The Garrison Trotter Neighborhood Association will redevelop land into a zen garden, serving as an educational space for nearby Trotter Elementary School students and community members. Furthermore, the Board approved a temporary performance venue, the Ascension Pavilion, to activate the Blair Lot in Nubian Square and foster community programming. The Office-to-Residential Conversion Program will also convert vacant office buildings into homes, aiming to create 762 units in total.

Projects at 16-18 Hawley Street and 123 N Washington Street will add substantial housing while preserving ground-floor commercial space. The initiatives underscore Boston's commitment to resilience, affordability, and equity in urban development. These developments represent a significant step towards revitalizing Roxbury and supporting its community.
