'He could have killed me' Malden father attacked by man with weapon outside Tufts Medical Center

Boston, MALocal News

John Baglio, a Malden father and K-8 music teacher, was violently attacked outside Tufts Medical Center in Boston while his son was hospitalized for a serious heart condition. The incident unfolded quickly, with Baglio suffering a severe facial laceration that required over two hours of surgery and 56 stitches. His wife, Jennifer, an EMT, recounted the horrifying moment she witnessed the attack, describing her initial shock and fear upon seeing her husband's injuries. Police arrested 45-year-old Wilfredo Burgos, who is homeless, and charged him with assault and battery with a dangerous weapon. Despite the chaos, Baglio expressed gratitude for surviving the attack, acknowledging how close he came to death.

Jennifer noted that while Burgos may have had a crack pipe, they did not find any weapon used in the assault, suggesting the injury was inflicted with a sharp object. The couple is relieved that their son has since been discharged from the hospital. Burgos is currently held without bail and is due in court on Thursday, reflecting ongoing concerns about public safety in the area.
