Boston, MALocal News

Mayor Michelle Wu signed a Project Labor Agreement with the Greater Boston Building Trades Unions, allowing graduates of Madison Park Technical Vocational High School to enter construction union jobs. This initiative is part of the Boston Public Schools' Long-Term Facilities Plan to ensure a consistent supply of skilled labor for capital projects. Mayor Wu stated that this agreement reflects Boston's commitment to providing students with opportunities and the resources necessary for career development. Chaton Green, a Business Agent for the unions, emphasized the agreement's role in fostering economic growth and community stability. The PLA guarantees local hiring, ensuring that those building the schools are from the community.

It also aims to create pathways for young women and students of color into sustainable careers. The agreement aligns with the city's standards for equitable procurement and supplier diversity, enhancing opportunities for minority- and women-owned businesses. Future school projects will be assessed for inclusion in the PLA, ensuring ongoing support for local employment.
