Supporting the Workforce Development Efforts of New and Emerging Job Training Programs

The Neighborhood Jobs Trust (NJT) allocated $500,000 to four community organizations in Boston to bolster job-training programs for low-income residents. This funding is part of the New and Emerging Programs Initiative, which focuses on enhancing the capacity of smaller organizations with operating budgets below $1. 5 million. The selected programs collectively served 58 individuals, offering diverse training opportunities, including dual language education and healthcare certifications. Each organization benefited from customized technical assistance and cohort meetings to improve their competitiveness for future funding.

Friends of the Hernández School secured an additional $300,000 grant to train participants in their program, demonstrating the initiative's success in fostering partnerships. Additionally, the Jamaica Plain Community Center plans to continue its CNA program with $200,000 from the MassSTEP program. Participants reported enhanced understanding of workforce development funding and established new collaborations. The initiative not only addresses immediate employment needs but also strengthens the infrastructure of community-based organizations in Boston.
