The Boston City Council is conducting hearings on the Mayor's proposed FY26 budget, showcasing strong revenue figures for FY25. By March 31, 2025, the city achieved 87% of its projected Hotels Tax revenue and 175% for Short-Term Rental fees. The Equity and Inclusion cabinet reported over 20 policy recommendations totaling $34 million aimed at reducing disparities, highlighting a need for coordinated data collection. The Economic Opportunity and Inclusion cabinet, led by Chief Segun Idowu, discussed successful initiatives such as SPACE Grants and the growth of contracts for minority- and women-owned businesses, emphasizing equity in city contracts. The Department of Innovation and Technology will address digital equity gaps in future hearings, while the Office of Food Justice will continue supporting local farmers.

Hearings next week will include the Boston Public Health Commission and other vital city services. Public participation is encouraged at all hearings to foster community engagement.
