On Workers Memorial Day, Boston honors two workers who died from workplace-related illnesses last year, reflecting on the ongoing need for safety improvements. Mayor Michelle Wu's Worker Empowerment Cabinet has implemented initiatives to enhance worker safety, including the City’s Construction and Demolition Safety Ordinance. This ordinance mandates safety plans and training for construction workers, reaching over 1,200 individuals since its launch. Deputy Chief Jodi Sugerman-Brozan noted the partnership with labor rights advocates, which has strengthened these safety measures.
