The Betty Greene Apartments Grand Opening Celebration
Mayor Michelle Wu celebrated the grand opening of the Betty Greene Apartments, a significant new housing project in Jackson Square that provides 65 affordable units for lower-income families. This development is part of a larger initiative to revitalize Jackson Square and create a more inclusive community. The six-story building includes a variety of apartment sizes and income-restricted options, with 22 units designated for households earning up to 30% of the Area Median Income. Local officials, including State Representative Sam Montaño and City Councilor Ben Weber, emphasized the importance of such projects in combating Boston's ongoing housing crisis. The apartments are built to Passive House standards, ensuring energy efficiency and long-term sustainability.
Sheila A. Dillon, Boston’s Chief of Housing, highlighted the community-led efforts that shaped the project and its alignment with the neighborhood's character. The Betty Greene Apartments are also part of the Jackson Square Redevelopment Initiative, which aims to transform vacant land into vibrant, affordable housing. This project exemplifies the collaborative spirit among various stakeholders committed to enhancing the quality of life for Boston residents.
