Mayor Wu and Black Male Advancement Award 500,000 in Grants to 53 Community Organizations Supporting Black Men and Boys across Boston Neighborhoods

Mayor Michelle Wu, along with the Office of Black Male Advancement, announced the recipients of the 2025 Community Empowerment Grants, which total $500,000 aimed at supporting community-based organizations (CBOs) that foster positive change for Black men and boys in Boston. This funding is intended to enhance the capacity of these organizations, allowing them to expand their services in various neighborhoods across the city. Mayor Wu articulated the city’s dedication to empowering organizations that are deeply rooted in their communities, highlighting the critical work they perform daily. The grants prioritize seven focus areas, including mentoring, housing mobility, and economic inclusion, which are essential for fostering opportunities and resources for Black men and boys. Frank Farrow, the Executive Director of the Office of Black Male Advancement, expressed excitement about the collaboration with the awardees and the anticipated positive impacts.

Mariangely Solis Cervera, Chief of Equity and Inclusion, reiterated the importance of this investment in ensuring access to mentorship and resources. The previous grant cycle in 2024 benefited over 15,000 residents, showcasing the program's significant reach and impact. This initiative not only reflects a commitment to social equity but also aims to build stronger networks within the community.
