Emerging Climate Tech RFI Summary Report

Boston is actively pursuing its climate neutrality goals for 2030 and 2050 by engaging with climate tech startups through the Emerging Climate Tech Request for Information (RFI). Released by the Office of Emerging Technology, the RFI seeks to identify the challenges these startups face and how the city can better support them. Key areas of focus include building decarbonization, climate resilience, energy transformation, and clean transportation. In response to feedback, the city plans to implement municipal pilot programs that provide startups with real-world testing opportunities, as well as streamline procurement processes to facilitate the adoption of innovative solutions. Educational resources will be created to help startups navigate public procurement requirements and address regulatory hurdles.

Additionally, the city aims to enhance networking opportunities by organizing public events and fostering relationships between startups and city departments. By establishing a collaborative ecosystem, Boston is positioning itself as a leader in climate innovation. These efforts underscore the city’s commitment to addressing pressing climate issues while promoting equitable growth.
