The grand opening of Boston's largest supportive housing development at 3368 Washington Street is a landmark achievement in addressing homelessness in the city. With 202 affordable homes, including 140 units specifically for individuals who have experienced homelessness, this project represents a significant investment in supportive housing. Mayor Michelle Wu emphasized that stable housing, coupled with on-site services, provides a vital foundation for residents to rebuild their lives. The five-story building features additional income-restricted apartments for families and units tailored for mobility and sensory-impaired individuals, promoting inclusivity. Pine Street Inn and The Community Builders will offer essential services like healthcare and employment support to ensure residents have access to the resources they need.

This initiative was made possible through a combination of public and private funding, highlighting the importance of community collaboration in tackling housing challenges. Lyndia Downie, President of Pine Street Inn, noted that this development brings their total to over 1,100 units, showcasing effective strategies in combating homelessness. The project serves as a powerful example of what can be achieved when various stakeholders unite to create lasting solutions for housing insecurity in Massachusetts.
