Boston Home Center Launches HomeWorks Green Loan Program to Support Sustainable Home Improvements

Boston, MALocal News

The City of Boston has launched the HomeWorks Green Loan Program, an initiative aimed at providing financial assistance to homeowners for energy-efficient and sustainable home improvements. This program, managed by the Boston Home Center, is part of Mayor Michelle Wu’s broader strategy to create a more resilient and sustainable environment for all residents. Eligible homeowners can access funds for a variety of projects, including the installation of solar panels and upgrades to heating systems, with a requirement that at least one-third of the project scope includes green improvements. The program is tailored for residents who own and occupy 1-4 unit homes or condos, with income eligibility set at up to 135% of the Area Median Income. By offering these loans, Boston aims to reduce long-term energy costs and improve the overall safety and comfort of homes.

Sheila A. Dillon, Chief of Housing, emphasized the program's role in empowering residents to make meaningful improvements. Additionally, the initiative supports the city’s climate goals, including achieving net-zero emissions by 2050. Interested homeowners can find more information and apply through the Boston Home Center’s website.
