Boston, MALocal News

Mayor Michelle Wu will host the 84th annual Boston Common Tree Lighting on December 4, from 6:00 p. m. to 8:00 p. m. , alongside Nova Scotia Premier Tim Houston.

This event marks the 54th year that Nova Scotia has donated a tree to Boston, a gesture rooted in gratitude for relief efforts after the 1917 Halifax explosion. The evening will feature performances by The Pointer Sisters and local artists, with pre-show entertainment kicking off at 6:00 p. m. The official Christmas tree, a 45-foot white spruce, will be lit alongside 50,000 additional lights across Boston Common and the Public Garden. The lighting will culminate in a pyrotechnic display, symbolizing the festive spirit.

Mayor Wu emphasized the importance of the partnership with Nova Scotia, stating it reinforces the bond between the communities. The event is supported by various sponsors, including Amazon and JetBlue, showcasing the community's commitment to celebrating the holiday season. This beloved tradition not only marks the start of the holiday season in Boston but also celebrates a century-long friendship with Nova Scotia.
