Who has the best grocery prices and quality in Greater Boston? New ratings are in.
ALDI leads Boston-area grocery stores with prices 28% below the average, according to Consumers’ Checkbook's latest report. Market Basket, despite ongoing family ownership struggles, is recognized for its low prices and high-quality produce and meat, scoring 15% lower than the average of surveyed stores. Wegmans, expanding with five stores in the region, received an 81% superior rating from customers for overall quality, remaining competitive in pricing despite not being the cheapest. Trader Joe’s also ranked highly, with 79% of respondents rating it as superior for overall quality. Roche Bros.
and Whole Foods scored well in quality but had prices 17% and 18% higher than the average, respectively. Most large chains, including Target, received poor customer ratings, with Target at the bottom of the list. The survey involved a 150-item shopping list and evaluations from Consumers’ Checkbook members, an independent nonprofit organization.
